ATLANTA- A 14-month- old boy was kidnapped by his mother at Lenox Square Mall late Monday morning during a supervised visit by the Division of Family and Children Services.
Ryan Alwadi was taken by his mother, Sahar Alwadi, without permission during their supervised visit around 11:30 a.m. Although the visit was supervised by DFCS, Alwadi managed to make it out of the mall with her 14-month-old son. It is believed that she left through the Macy’s department store and her exact whereabouts from there are unknown. According to police, Alwadi did not have a car and might have taken MARTA. Their location after leaving the mall is unclear and police are further investigating.
The Atlanta Police Department provided a picture of Alwadi’s last known address in Sandy Springs, but when FOX5 reporters arrived at the apartment, information was not adding up. When reporters arrived at Alwadi’s last alleged residence, a man at the address insisted that he has lived there for a year and has never seen Alwadi or Ryan when he was shown a picture. The apartment manager also did not recognize Alwadi. Police say she is believed to often be in the Sandy Springs area and has ties there.
According to DFCS, during supervised visits there is supposed to be one social worker in contact with the parent and child at all times. A social worker is present to ensure the safety of the child and follow the orders set out by the judge. Judges determine what can and cannot be allowed at visitations.
Sahar Alwadi was last seen wearing a black jacket, a red with gold lettering, gray/black sweatpants, and orange Polo shoes. Ryan Alwadi was wearing a gray, white, and blue Calvin Klein sweatshirt, black pants, and white and blue shoes.
