The Atlanta Hawks Basketball Club and GRAMMY® Award-nominated hip-hop artist 2Chainz today announced plans to transform the club’s Dec. 30 matchup against the Detroit Pistons into a “T.R.U. to Atlanta” year-ending party at Philips Arena. Chainz, who last performed at a Hawks game in March 2015, is returning this season with halftime and postgame performances, a custom retail piece and a month-long “T.R.U. Tuesdays” philanthropic campaign for fans throughout metro Atlanta.
“I’m looking forward to hitting the floor to perform at the last Hawks game of 2016,” said 2Chainz. “I’ve been all around the world, but there’s no place like Atlanta and I can’t wait to feel the energy at Philips Arena.”
This December, 2Chainz and his music imprint The Real University (T.R.U.) are engaging fans in a series of weekly giveaways during their “T.R.U. Tuesdays” campaign. Chainz and Hawks CEO Steve Koonin made today’s concert announcement from the scene of the first event, a free lunch giveaway at Benihana inspired by “Hibachi for Lunch,” the rapper’s latest project.
“We’re beyond excited to end 2016 with a 2Chainz extravaganza, as Chainz is a homegrown superstar who, like the Hawks, is committed to entertaining and connecting to the Atlanta community,” said Koonin. “The donations he has made to veterans and families in need through the TRU Foundation are inspirational and further solidify him as a community champion with whom we are fortunate to partner during this season of giving.”
The team is also releasing a retail item to commemorate 2Chainz’s appearance. An updated 2016-17 version of one of the best-selling pieces in the history of Hawks Shop – a team-colored t-shirt featuring the rapper’s noted two-necklace look – is available via presale starting today at HawksShop.com.
The Hawks are offering a “2Chainz 2-Pack” at Hawks.com/2chainz, which includes two seats for the game and $10 in food and beverage per ticket starting at just $29.
The halftime performance will be televised on FOX Sports Southeast and streamed live on FOX Sports GO. Coverage will begin at 7:30 p.m. ET, with tipoff scheduled for 8 p.m. ET.
