LAGRANGE, Ga. — Five people were killed and two others were injured in a head-on collision between two cars in the west Georgia city of LaGrange, officials said Saturday.
MyFox8 reported that witnesses saw a 1986 Oldsmobile Cutlass passing other cars at high speed through in a no-passing zone before it slammed into a 1995 Pontiac GrandAm headed in the opposite direction.
Willie Hooks, 28, was killed in the Oldsmobile and 23-year-old Melanie Kay Lemmon was killed in the Pontiac.
Also killed were three passengers in the Pontiac, whose names were not immediately released. Initial reports indicated that one may be a young child.
The two injured passengers were reportedly airlifted to hospitals in Atlanta and Columbus.
The Georgia State Patrol said it is having a blood-alcohol test conducted on Hooks.
