You don’t get to be called “The Empire State of the South” without having a few songs written about you on the way. Georgia’s entertainment industry is growing massively, but music has always flourished from our red clay. To write a list of songs about Georgia and leave “Georgia on My Mind” out would be criminal–but we’re going to look at eight other songs featuring Georgia and Atlanta. These are in no particular order and they are just eight picks out of a massive pool of songs. Let’s get going!
Midnight Train to Georgia – Gladys Knight & The Pips
This 1973 hit is a quintessential song to mention when talking about Georgia. It’s got a classic vibe that fits the time. Gladys Night has a voice to remember.
A-Town – CyHi The Prynce Ft. Travis Porter & B.o.B.
You’ll hear a very familiar chant in the sampling of this song. A-Town captures the hip-hop side of Atlanta very well and I’m sold on anything that has the Tomahawk Chop.
The Devil Went to Down with Georgia – Charlie Daniels
The devil came and made a classic with Charlie Daniels’ fiddle-heavy ballad. It wouldn’t be a stretch to say that most people have either heard this song or played it in Guitar Hero.
Forever I Love Atlanta – Lil Scrappy
The title here is pretty straight forward. Lil Scrappy made an anthem out of his love for Atlanta and it may be one of the lesser known ATL tributes out there.
The Moon Over Georgia – Shenandoah

This one may be your parents’ favorite song. It is a classic that hits at memories and locations all throughout Georgia.
Welcome to Atlanta – Ludacris and Jermaine Dupri
Everyone knows this one, right? Luda and Jermaine do a relatively fine job of explaining what we’re up to in the city.
Oh, Atlanta – Bad Company

Bad Company delivers a classic rock tribute to the Peach State with Oh, Atlanta. Your dad probably still listens to this song as he drives into Atlanta.
Doraville – Atlanta Rhythm Section
Not Atlanta, Doraville. This song is all about Doraville and just how good of a city it is. I can’t speak much on behalf of Doraville but according to A.R.S. it’s a pretty nice place.
While you’re taking a break from humming “Georgia On My Mind”, give some of these Georgia hits a listen. There is a plethora of other songs just about our great state, but these few takes chief spots for me! Have a great Georgia day!
