The Atlanta Falcons had a tumultuous first season under new head coach Dan Quinn. Everybody remembers that at one point the team was 5-0. Sunday’s loss to the Saints put the last nail in the coffin of the 8-8 2015 season. It also helped finalize their opponents in the 2016 season. The dates and times for each game will be released with the final schedule in April.
Home:
Carolina Panthers
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
New Orleans Saints
San Francisco 49ers
Arizona Cardinals
Kansas City Chiefs
San Diego Chargers
Green Bay Packers
Away:
Carolina Panthers
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
New Orleans Saints
St. Louis Rams
Seattle Seahawks
Denver Broncos
Oakland Raiders
Philadelphia Eagles
The Falcons are going West this season (AFC & NFC….. terrible pun, I know) as evident with the confirmed opponents above. Atlanta’s opponents in 2016 combined for a 114-94 overall record during the regular season in 2015.
Besides the regular NFC South rivals, the Falcons have two games that immediately jump off the schedule. Dan Quinn will return to Seattle and face his former team in maybe the most raucous stadium in the league. Sidenote: can’t wait to see Julio Jones give Richard Sherman that WORK, because you know it’s bound to happen! My second game is definitely versus the Rams. Breakout star RB Devonta Freeman will face beloved University of Georgia RB Todd Gurley in what will hopefully be a duel of young talent.
Let us hope that Dan Quinn can sharpen the Falcons talons in his second season. There are some issues that need to be addressed in the off season, like with most NFL teams, but there’s clearly talent on the Falcons’ roster. However, one issue in particular that needs addressing ASAP is Kyle Shanahan the QB Killer. That topic is better saved for a rant for another time. Are you excited for the new schedule?
