There are so many gems in this world that have yet to be discovered. Some of which are hiding away in the roughs of Georgia. Popular for her unique looks and combination of quirky red hair and adorable freckles, Jamillah McWhorter is a reminder of Atlanta’s unique and bold modeling industry. She was born and raised a little ways southwest of the city and is currently finishing up her senior year at Georgia State University.
Attending school in the city exposed Jamillah to some of Atlanta’s most popular artists and photographers which have inspired her to pursue her desire to become a signed model. Jamillah has successfully marketed herself via social media and has gained a huge following on social media.
When were you signed to your first agency?
About a month or two ago I signed to Kitten Agency. It’s a mother agency to a ton other agencies.
What are some of the obstacles you’ve encountered on your modeling journey?
Rejection is one of the hardest parts about this business. I’ve been offered to be signed by other agencies in the past. However, once I informed the agencies of my height and weight, I was usually dismissed. Also, balancing school, work, and modeling has been a challenge.
Advice to aspiring models?
Find what makes you different and use it. Take a LOT of pictures. Study yourself in a mirror and learn your angles. Be smart. Be skeptical about who photographs you. Keep in mind that money does not come immediately.
What are your goals for modeling career?
I want to use my voice to speak for others who may not have an outlet. I want to positively influence people. I also would eventually like to get into acting.
Do you have a favorite picture of you?
My favorite picture of me is a mural of my face painted on the side of a building in South Africa. I recently found out about it when the artist tagged me in the photo on Instagram.
