Basketball is the “talk” of sports right now and since the Atlanta Hawks lost to the Pacers in game 7, my mind is already gearing up for the Falcons 2014 season. Even though we have to wait 4 months before the football season starts, today I realized that everyone has a very unique story on how they’ve developed their unconditional love for their favorite sports team. To be honest, like most people in Atlanta I’m not a HUGE Atlanta Hawks fan but I’m a DIE HARD Falcons fan….
I moved to Atlanta in 2001, so this is right at the start of the Mike Vick era. There was nothing more exciting than watching Mike Vick scramble around helpless defensive players and score touchdowns with his feet. Once the Falcons reached the NFC Championship in 2003, I was set. This was around the same time Madden 2004 released in stores, (the one with the QB vision) and this is where I became a DIE HARD Falcons fan.
My hustle in high school was video games. I was willing to wager anything in a friendly game of Madden if it meant I could buy more snacks out of the vending machine during lunch. Everybody always thinks they’re good in sports games but I knew I was great. I competed in EA Sports Madden Tournaments and the whole nine. With Mike Vick being the fastest quarterback on the game, it was almost like activating a cheat code playing with him. His speed made games very easy to defeat any opponent that stepped forward, which in-turn made me more money. I’ve been a fan ever since…
