For the fifth time in history, Cirque du Soleil returns to Duluth. This time it brings Corteo, complete with carnival atmosphere and showstopping circus stunts.
Opening at the Infinite Energy Arena on Aug. 29, Corteo debuted under the Big Top in Montreal back in 2005. For the current North American tour, its adaptation for the arena includes elaborate staging and impressive details like Eiffel Tower-inspired curtains.
Corteo means cortege in Italian, and the show is a funeral procession. But it’s a parade imagined by a clown — his funeral, actually — so it’s not gloomy but gleeful. How can you be sad when acrobats are swinging from chandeliers or catapulting off giant beds?
As usual with Cirque, there’s plenty of music, humor and impressive feats of dexterity and strength. A cast of more than 50 artists bring Corteo to life on a grand scale for the seven available shows that run through Sept. 2.
