Clayton County animal rescue groups call it one of the worst cases of abuse they have ever seen. A dog with a collar embedded so deep into its neck that vets didn’t know if they could save her.
Vets tell FOX 5 News that the collar was made out of zip ties and a strap with a buckle that was way too tight for a Labrador mix.
Her name is Sunny and her disposition follows the name despite the dark days she has experienced in her short life. The black lab is between six and eight months old.
Maria Dorough, a liaison between Animal Control and rescue organization arrived at the center on Friday where Sunny was surrendered and says she couldn’t stomach what she saw.
“We just couldn’t believe someone could let this happen to a dog in this county,” said Dorough.
Animal rescue leaders say the man who left Sunny here claimed the animal belonged to his daughter. They’re now working with Clayton County investigators to push for an arrest.
Vets say Sunny is now in good shape after her surgery. She is still on the mend though.
