GAFollowers.com writer, Rick Limpert loves taking trips that are an easy drive from the Metro Atlanta area. He loves them even more when golf is part of the trip.
Everything about Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club in Palm Harbor, Florida (Outside of Tampa) is easy.
From the drive anywhere you might be located in the southeast, to the check in process to teeing up on any of the four championship courses offered at Innisbrook, it’s worry and pain-free.
It’s also a great value.
The recently renovated resort is in beautiful shape. Our one-bedroom suite was large and overlooked the Copperhead Course. Should you choose to stay entirely within the gates of Innisbrook, you can. There are restaurants, a spa and a great number of things to do. Should you want to “get out” you can do that as well. My wife went to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium while I was playing golf to see Winter and Hope, the famous dolphins.
Innisbrook is located in Palm Harbor, but really that means that a major road is located just outside the entrance with all the restaurants and shopping you can handle.
We went to dinner one night at the Lucky Dill Deli. A Brooklyn-style deli with a huge menu and great food.
Whatever you feel like eating, it’s right near Innisbrook.
My time at Innisbrook allowed me to play one course, so that meant the Copperhead, which is the home of the PGA Tour’s Valspar Championship. What a tough course, but fair. It’s a must play on your Innisbrook excursion.
I played:
– Copperhead Course – Par 71 • 7,340 yards
Golfweek’s 2013 Best Courses You Can Play – No. 6 in Florida
The other courses:
Island Course – Par 72 • 7,310 yards
A great test. Tight fairways, intimidating water hazards, abundant bunkers, and extraordinary elevation changes, the newly renovated and lengthened Island Course is considered by many to be as equally demanding as Copperhead.
North Course – Par 70 • 6,325 yards
The North Course at Innisbrook is similar in terrain to the Copperhead Course. At about 6,300 yards, it remains one of our most challenging courses.
South Course – Par 71 • 6,620 yards
At over 6,600 yards, South is reminiscent of a links-style design, both in terms of rolling terrain and numerous fairway bunkering. Ample waste bunkers, a total of 10 water hazards, undulating terrain, and the Gulf of Mexico breezes.
