If you hear the words, “let’s get the party started,” you’ve come to right place on Saturday, September 12.
Atlanta-area artist, Elena Makievsky, will be hosting a art showcase and fundraiser on September 12, from 10 am – 4 pm at Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Roswell to not only raise funds so smiles can be brought to the faces and families of those battling childhood cancer, but also raise awareness of what so many people are going through on a daily basis. Makievsky is in the middle of a 200 painting challenge that will wrap up in December, but she is painting 50 special portraits for this show in Roswell.
“I am working every day to complete 50 large portraits of little warriors that will represent children all over the world that are fighting so hard for chance to grow up and experience life,” explains Makievsky.
In addition to being an artist, Makievsky is also a storyteller as all of her works of art tell a story.
“Each child that I do painting of I give promise that I will work harder to bring awareness to people and will continue bring joy to kids and their families through my life. I haven’t met any of the kids I did paintings for or their families, but each became part of me.”
Makievsky, originally from Kharkiv, Ukraine is a mother of four herself. Her goal with the 200 painting challenge is to paint favorite characters or images and spread smiles and joy to children affected with cancer or other terminally ill diseases. While the paintings are free, assistance is greatly appreciated and needed to help cover the cost of shipping each painting to the children and for paint and materials. Requests are coming in quickly and it would be great to see everyone work together to spread joy and awareness to those who are enduring something no person or child should ever experience. Any size donation or just showing up to offer support is appreciated.
While this is going to be a great and profound event and there is still much work to be done, with the upbeat Makievsky at the help, it most certainly will turn into a party at some point.
