Torrin Lawrence, a former track star at the University of Georgia, was killed early this morning in a wreck on I-75 near Cordele.
The accident occurred when Lawrence’s tire blew and came to a stop southbound near exit 94 according to Sheriff Billy Hancock. Lawrence vehicle was then struck by a truck which ultimately threw Lawrence from the vehicle and killing him. Hancock also stated that “We’re not sure where he was in relation to the car.”
While at the University of Georgia, he was a seven-time All-American and three-time Southeastern Conference Champion. He was also a part of the 2010 NCAA Champion in the 400-meter. Recently, he was apart of the Gold medal winning US’s 4×400 relay team in the IAAF World Relays in May.
