The 6th Annual World’s Largest Golf Outing in August, 1, and some Georgia golf courses are participating in this great event.
This is the sixth annual playing of what is considered the biggest one-day celebration of golf and charity More than 175 courses across America are expected to participate in 2016. (132 courses participated last year)
The 2015 WLGO broke every record: 12,397 golfers played at 132 courses and raised a remarkable $1,024,287 for injured veterans and their families. 2016 marks the 50th anniversary of Billy Casper’s U.S. Open victory at Olympic Club where he staged one of the greatest comebacks in golf history by erasing a seven-stroke deficit to beat Arnold Palmer in a playoff. Billy had deep connections with the military, serving in the Navy and later entertaining troops overseas. This event honors and carries on his legacy of caring for and giving back to his fellow man through golf.
Fisher House Foundation is the new benefiting charity for 2016. The international organization provides free, temporary lodging for families to be close to loved ones receiving medical care at major military and VA medical centers. Since its inception 26 years ago, Fisher House Foundation has saved families an estimated $320 million in out-of-pocket expenses for housing and transportation.
Past WLGO participants include PGA TOUR legend Chi Chi Rodriguez, 42nd President Bill Clinton, Bill Brooks (Indianapolis Colts’ “Ring of Honor”), John Starks (former New York Knicks guard and NBA Finals star), Dave Park (Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame member), and 30 other NFL stars. Since 2011, the WLGO has welcomed 40,000-plus golfers that have raised more than $3 million for injured veterans.
At any given moment, nearly 1,000 families are staying closed to loved ones in 70 Fisher House home across America, that is one reason this is an important event. Remember the date is August 1.
