According to SafeWise, Georgia has six of the most dangerous cities in the nation.
SafeWise is a home security company that researches and reviews security systems in order to assist buyers in purchasing the best match for their needs. The report analyzed the most recent FBI Crime Report statistics.
Those statistics were combined with population data (omitting cities with 10,000 citizens or lower and those that did not complete a crime report) for the best results and the results were as follows:
- Tukwila, Washington
- Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
- Emeryville, California
- Lumberton, North Carolina
- College Park, Georgia
- Bellmead, Texas
- Gallup, New Mexico
- Selma, Alabama
- East Point, Georgia
- Branson, Missouri
Douglas (13), Union City (17), Americus (20) and Brunswick (23) round out the top 25 behind College Park and East Point.
College Park boasts 21.51 violent crimes and 111.23 property crimes for every 1000 residents. East Point also increased to 12.94 violent crimes and 104.34 property crimes per 1000. Both cities moved up from their previous spots, College Park moving from 7 to 5 and East Point moving from 12 to 9.
When considering the safest cities in the nation, not one city in the south was listed. Out of the 100 cities listed, the majority of those were located in the New England area.
On the other hand, SafeWise also provided information for the safest cities in the state based off of similar criteria. This time, cities with 4,000 or less residents or an incomplete crime report were omitted.
- Summerville
- Johns Creek
- Grovetown
- Milton
- Flowery Branch
- Peachtree City
- Tyrone
- Folkston
- Braselton
- Auburn
Notable cities like Valdosta (79), Albany (86), Warner Robins (87), Atlanta (92) and Columus (94) round out the bottom of the top 100.
