The biggest game of the year is here ladies and gentlemen. The Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos will face off tonight in Santa Clara, California in the historic Super Bowl 50. While it would be even better if the Atlanta Falcons were actually playing tonight, there are quite a few players with Georgia ties getting their shot at a championship ring.
The most notable of the bunch, Cameron Newton, was just named NFL MVP and AP Offensive Player of the Year Saturday evening at the NFL Honors. However, he could not accept his award in person due to a team imposed curfew. The College Park native has not shied away from displaying his Georgia roots on and off the field. Whether you like him or not, he has undoubtedly become the new face of the league. A win tonight would put a cherry on top of a year where he led his team to a 17-1 season so far (Falcons put that one loss there though).
Cam isn’t the only Georgian featured in tonight’s game though. In total, there are 12 Georgia born players and 2 more who played at GA universities lacing up their cleats in Super Bowl 50. Both the University of Georgia and Georgia Tech are represented with 3 players each. Veterans like Thomas Davis and Charles Johnson to young stars like Demaryius Thomas will all have a chance to cement their names in history.
Will you be rooting for a specific player/team tonight or do you not care about the game at all? Personally, I’m rooting for Cam to finish a storybook season! Check below for the full list of Georgians in Super Bowl 50.
