Please no! Don’t take Kyle Shanahan away!
We’ve officially reached Black Monday in the NFL, which means we will start getting news about coaching interviews coming in rapidly. Yesterday we saw the Jaguars connected with Harold Goodwin and Josh McDaniels, and today they’ve been linked to another offensive coordinator.
This shouldn’t really be much of a surprise to anyone. Kyle Shanahan has been mentioned as a potential head coach for years now. Shanahan has gone on to field some of the best offenses in the NFL. In nine years as an offensive coordinator, Shanahan’s units have finished in the top ten in yards gained six times. Shanahan’s units have finished top ten in points scored three times, including this year with the Atlanta Falcons, where they rank first in the league.
Kyle Shanahan first served as an offensive coordinator with the Houston Texans from 2008-2009. He then moved on to the Washington Redskins from 2011-2013, where he was tasked with working with a multitude of quarterbacks, including Robert Griffin III and Kirk Cousins. Shanahan then spent a partial season in Cleveland before resigning, due to ownership insisting that the team play Johnny Manziel at quarterback. Shanahan has since been with the Falcons for the last two seasons.
