SANDY SPRINGS, GA — An Alpharetta woman died Thursday when a wheel from another vehicle crashed into her car during the height of the morning rush hour along S.R. 400 in Sandy Springs. The police department was dispatched just before 8 a.m. Oct. 19 to the accident on the southbound side near the Northridge Road interchange.
A preliminary investigation indicates the left rear wheel from a truck traveling northbound detached from the vehicle and flew over the median wall, said Sandy Springs police spokesperson Sgt. Sam Worsham.
The wheel, which still had its tire attached, struck a Nissan passenger car driven by 49-year-old Julieanna Shedrawy.
The Alpharetta resident was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision and no other vehicles were involved in the crash, Sgt. Worsham added.
Traffic investigators have determined the wheel came off the truck due to a “mechanical failure,” and no charges have been filed at this time, police note.
