Double the fun on Saturday afternoon as both the Kennesaw State men’s and women’s basketball teams are in action.
It’s Alumni Day and the women’s game is the annual Pink Game. The men are battling to win the regular season ASUN title.
Saturday’s game against Bellarmine at 2 p.m. will mark the fifth annual Pink Day game for the Kennesaw State women’s basketball program.
One hundred pink basketballs and 1000 pink and white shakers will be available to fans until supplies run out. Wellstar will also be providing in-game cancer screening and prevention messaging and tips throughout the game. Kennesaw State will also be holding moment of silence and a recognition for cancer survivors at halftime.
Pink Day began in 2018 to increase the university’s breast cancer awareness and fund initiatives. The event is held each year to promote breast cancer awareness and education. The annual tradition traces its roots back to former head coach Agnus Berenato’s time as head coach of the University of Pittsburgh women’s basketball team and her battle against cancer during her time here at Kennesaw State.
“Pink Day is a special day to celebrate all the brave women out there who are battling breast cancer or are survivors of it,” said head coach Octavia Blue. “It is also a day to help spread awareness and to encourage early screening for early detection. It means a lot to have a platform here at Kennesaw State to do that.”
KSU women’s basketball is raising donations for the memorial Pink Garden on campus through the annual Pink Day campaign. The garden will serve as a place of reflection and hope for those battling and for those who have lost a loved one to breast cancer. Fans wishing to contribute to the upkeep of the Pink Garden can do so by clicking here.
The Pink uniforms will return on Saturday.
The men are coming off a big comeback last-second win.
Demond Robinson’s two-foot jump shot hung on the rim before falling through at the buzzer to give Kennesaw State its 19th win of the year, 54-52, on the road at Jacksonville State. The men will be back in action for round two vs. Jacksonville State on Saturday at 5 p.m. in the Convocation Center in Kennesaw on Alumni Day at KSU.
