Yesterday Cobb County officials approved a request that will allow Georgia’s favorite grocery store to take over the top floor of the Sears in Cumberland Mall.
Yes, a grocery store inside a mall, Kroger will be one of the few to try such a concept according to Marietta Daily Journal. This is not the first time Kroger pulled this off, in 1970 Kroger placed a store inside of Greenbriar Mall in Southwest Atlanta.
The location will be used to take advantage of the new visitors that attend Braves games at the nearby SunTrust Park opening in the spring of 2017.
This will also allow Kroger to build a gas station outside of the mall.
The Cobb County Board of Commissioners still have to give a final approval on May 19th.
If you ask me, a mall is no longer a mall once a grocery store gets placed inside. I’m still having a hard time wrapping my head around someone carrying bags from DSW along with bags after taking advantage of the 2 for $4 Simply Lemonade deal offered to Kroger Plus users. More information coming soon.
