Prepare to be entertained by a tall man with long red beard from the state of Georgia.
Kyle Brooks calls himself a “street folk artist,” but in reality he’s part entertainer, part magician and part visionary.
See for yourself as Brooks’ (BlackCatTips) solo art show wraps up September 1, at Spalding Nix Fine Art Gallery.
Southern folk art is hot, and Brooks’ work can best be described as colorful, cool and wacky. Brooks plays the part of a Southern folk artist to a tee; tall, thin, wearing overalls possessing a long red beard.
The showing at Spalding Nix Fine Art is just an introduction to a man long on talent and loaded with ideas.
Brooks has become known for his street poems, whimsical roadside art installations, and bold colorful murals. With his brush, bright colors, and found materials, he intends to paint the world “Happy.” In addition to turning the streets of Atlanta into his personal canvas, Brooks has partnered with companies like Coca-Cola, Delta Airlines, Weather Channel, and Adult Swim, among many others. With his debut show, A Bowl Full of Happiness, Brooks will fill the walls of Spalding Nix Fine Art with his whimsical characters and bountiful landscapes.
In addition to his studio and mural work, Brooks creates street poems and whimsical roadside art installations. With his brush, bright colors and a few found materials, he really does paint the world happy.
Show runs through September 1. The art is playful, whimsical and smart. Sure the show ends Sept. 1, but this is just the start for Brooks.
