Be one of the first 1,000 fans in the door for the Saturday, February 13, University of Georgia vs. LSU women’s gymnastics meet and you will be one of the lucky fans to receive a free Leah Brown bobblehead. It’s all part of a conscious effort by the University of Georgia Athletic Association to honor UGA athletes, reward loyal Bulldog fans and do a little something special to promote UGA Athletics.
Brown, an All-American gymnast in the 1990s, has been busy since her career ended on the mat. She has served two tours of duty with the U.S. Navy in Afghanistan as an orthopedic doctor. She was the Georgia Gymnastics Distinguished Alumni of the Year in 2012 and also the Atlanta, Ga., native gave back to the Gym Dogs in a very unique way; she donated a United States flag that was flown over Special Operations Task Force – Southeast Headquarters in Afghanistan, a task unit of warriors directly supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. More recently, Brown has been stationed at the Naval Hospital Bremerton, Wash., and was awarded the Bronze Star for her actions in the combat zones.
Brown’s bobblehead is the first of a series of bobblehead giveaways at UGA Athletics events this winter and spring.
“Our promotions staff works with the coaches of each sport to decide which athlete to showcase each year,” explains Brenton Shiver,
University of Georgia Athletic Association, Director of Promotions. “We usually start the process of deciding who to feature and picking out photos to use in late August or September.”
Other bobblehead promotions this winter and spring include:
Men’s Basketball – Shandon Anderson
Women’s Basketball – Andy Landers
Gymnastics – Leah Brown
Softball – Megan Wiggins
Baseball – Josh Fields
Harry Dawg on on Star Wars day for Baseball
