One week after the Masters, come out and watch the legends of golf in Gwinnett. One of the deepest and most accomplished fields of the 2016 PGA TOUR Champions season will be headed to TPC Sugarloaf April 11-17 for the fourth annual Mitsubishi Electric Classic in Duluth, Ga. Headlined by eight-time major championship winner Tom Watson, the tournament field boasts major champions, World Golf Hall of Fame members, and the winners from each of the previous three tournaments.
Watson’s presence comes one week after his final appearance in The Masters. A two-time winner of the famed Green Jacket, Watson will be teeing it up for only the second time in 2016, following his appearance at the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai to kick off the season. Watson, a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame who tallied 39 victories on the PGA TOUR and 14 wins on the PGA TOUR Champions, will be one of seven golfers playing in the Mitsubishi Electric Classic after competing in this week’s Masters Tournament in Augusta, Ga.
“There is no doubt this is one of the strongest fields we have ever had at the Mitsubishi Electric Classic and we’re excited about this year’s tournament,” said Stan Hall, executive director of the Mitsubishi Electric Classic. “Tom Watson is one of the game’s greatest ambassadors and it is an honor to have him join us after he says farewell to Augusta.”
Along with Watson in the final field are Hall of Fame members Colin Montgomerie and Mark O’Meara. Montgomerie won a record eight European Tour Order of Merit titles and compiled 31 European Tour victories. Since joining the PGA TOUR Champions in 2013, he has won three senior major championships. O’Meara was named PGA TOUR Player of the Year in 1998 after winning The Masters and British Open in the same year. He was elected as a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2015 after compiling 16 victories on the PGA TOUR. In total, six players who have received golf’s highest honor of World Golf Hall of Fame enshrinement will compete in the tournament.
Other notable players in the field include Bernhard Langer, the current Charles Schwab Cup leader and 2013 champion, Miguel Angel Jimenez, the 2014 winner of the event, Olin Browne, the defending champion, as well as Kenny Perry, Lee Janzen, Mark Calcavecchia, Bob Tway, and Mark Brooks.
