The most famous chest bump and doubles team in tennis is coming to the BB&T Atlanta Open this July.
The BB&T Atlanta Open is scheduled July 25-Aug. 2 at Atlantic Station. The annual event attracts more than 40,000 tennis fans and is the first of eight summer tournaments in the Emirates Airline US Open Series that leads to the US Open.
Mike and Bob Bryan, universally recognized as the greatest doubles team of all time, have committed to play the 2015 tournament in Atlanta that starts the lead up to the U.S. Open. The twin brothers made worldwide news last September when they won their 100th title at the US Open. Since then, they have added four more championships, including the 2014 Barclays ATP World Tour Doubles Finals crown. Their signature celebratory move is jumping into an airborne chest bump.
Here is the short list of records for the Olympic Gold Medal winners: most Grand Slam titles, 16; most tournament titles, 104; most years finishing No. 1, 10; most ATP Masters 1000 titles, 30 and counting.
Tournament Director and Chief Development Officer Eddie Gonzalez said, “Since doubles is the primary form of tennis competition in ALTA and USTA leagues, there is no better showcase for the most dominant men’s team in tennis history than the BB&T Atlanta Open. That’s why we’re bringing Mike and Bob to our 2015 tournament.”
In a joint statement, the Bryans said, “We looking forward to playing BB&T Atlanta Open knowing how passionate the Atlanta tennis fans are, in particular about doubles. Another great draw is playing in the unique Atlantic Station venue that other players have mentioned as one of their favorites on the ATP World Tour.”
The Bryans will begin tournament play on Wednesday, July 29, but the schedule could change depending on weather.
