The 2015 BB&T Atlanta Open is underway as qualifying matches took place all weekend at Atlantic Station in Midtown.
This is men’s professional tennis at its highest level and the main draw of the tournament begins for singles and doubles on Monday.
Main draw matches will feature Yen-Hsun Lu vs. Malek Jaziri, Go Soeda vs. Alexandr Dolgopolov and Gilles Muller vs. Donald Young in singles and one main draw doubles match.
Those matches will be followed by an exhibition match featuring former BB&T Atlanta Open champ and former world No. 1, Andy Roddick taking on one of the brightest young stars in tennis, Frances Tiafoe of Maryland.
Also a late addition to the main draw will be a local favorite in Ryan Harrison.
Harrison, who has advanced to two semifinals at the BB&T Atlanta Open, will make his fifth appearance at the local ATP World Tour event, Eddie Gonzalez, BB&T Atlanta Open Tournament Director and Chief Development Officer, announced today.
In 2012, Harrison rose to No. 43 in the world. His accomplishments in singles that year included reaching semifinals in San Jose, Newport and Eastbourne. He has won two doubles finals – at this event in 2012 and in Newport in 2011 – both with Australian Matthew Ebden.
The Sherveport, Louisiana, native fell to Kevin Anderson in the 2013 singles semifinal. In 2011, eventual champion Mardy Fish defeated him in the same round.
