There’s great news for all you beer and whiskey lovers who crave the best drinks in Atlanta.
Atlanta’s very own Monday Night Brewing and American Spirit Works have teamed up together to create a unique Scottish single malt whiskey. This idea stemmed from the early days of Monday Night when they used to home brew all of their beers and host tastings out of their backyard.
Monday Night Co-Founder Joel Iverson coincidentally lived right next door to ASW Co-Founder Charlie Thompson and they became friends over some conversations fueled by beer. Ever since then, the local companies have been close.
The next steps involved a meeting between Monday Night’s brew master, Adam Bishop and ASW’s master distiller, Justin Manglitz. As expected, men talking about alcohol and how to make it often leads to a great friendship.
The Monday Night Whiskey begins with the brewing of mash that’s chock full of the cherry wood-smoked malt that is the same malt used in the Drafty Kilt Ale. It’s one of Monday Night’s most popular beers due to its smoky and smooth flavor. After the mash is brewed, it’s transported a short 5 miles to ASW for distilling in their twin copper pot stills. At this point, all that there’s left to do is wait as the whiskey ages in American white oak quarter casks.
The Monday Night Whiskey will be available in early March at liquor stores in the greater Atlanta area with a retail price of $59 for 750 ml. But for those that can’t wait until March, there will be a small release party at ASW. Advance tickets will be on sale at Monday Night Brewing’s website on Monday, February 6th.
