After a season-opening weekend in Daytona, where Joey Logano took the Daytona 500, the 2015 NASCAR season comes 400 miles north to Atlanta Motor Speedway and the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500.
Atlanta Motor Speedway promises to continue the intense competition seen in the season’s opening event, as drivers get their taste of the 2015 intermediate rules package.
Kevin Harvick, last year’s NACAR Sprint Cup Series champion and tonight’s second-place finisher in the Daytona 500, will get things started with a special race week-opening burnout in his No. 4 Chevrolet in front of Phillips Arena in Downtown Atlanta tomorrow afternoon.
On-track action gets underway Thursday with the first open team test of the new NASCAR season. Sprint cup teams will get their first true taste of the 2015 rules package with a four-hour practice session from 1 to 5 p.m.
Sprint Cup Series drivers will then vie for the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 pole position Friday evening, beginning at 5:45 p.m. in the Drive Sober Georgia Qualifying Day.
The racing cranks up with a unique same-day doubleheader Saturday afternoon with the NASCAR XFINITY Series and Camping World Truck Series hitting the AMS asphalt in the Hisense 250 and the Hyundai Construction Equipment 200.
Sunday’s Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 Sprint Cup Series race highlights the weekend and caps off Atlanta’s 2015 NASCAR week in what is shaping up to be an intriguing second race of the season.
