Not only is Alabama Head Football Coach, Nick Saban, a championship football coach, he also now joins the ranks of golf course owners,
Waterfall Club on Lake Burton announced the expansion of its ownership group by five members, including University of Alabama head football coach, Nick Saban, and long-tenured National Football League coach, Ken Whisenhunt, according to the club’s managing partner, Rob Hewlett.
Saban and Whisenhunt are joined in the growing ownership group by Marlan Wilbanks, senior partner of law firm Wilbanks/Gouinlock LLP; Lenny Lemoine, president and CEO of The Lemoine Co.; and Mike Nixon, partner of Hawks Ridge Golf Club in Ball Ground, Ga.
“We are very excited about the added owners and the passion and commitment to the club that they each bring,” says Hewlett. “Nick, Ken, Lenny and Marlan have homes on the lake and they have used and enjoyed the club regularly for the last decade. We believe that Waterfall Club will thrive and grow in significant ways under this expanded ownership group.”
Waterfall Club is a private amenity club located within the 400-acre Waterfall community and tucked on a mountaintop overlooking the emerald green waters of 2,800-acre Lake Burton in north Georgia.
This is the award-winning golf course that rambles around the Blue Ridge terrain and offers the most dramatic on-course elevation changes in Georgia. Hole #2 is a par-3 golf hole that falls 215 feet from tee-to-green, all framed by a cascading waterfall. There is also the ruggedly handsome, hewn-stone lodge perched above Lake Burton. And there are countless lakefront and boating activities to enjoy.
Other amenities include a variety of casual and formal dining rooms, a recreation room and a 52,000 sq. ft. Sports Center with an indoor swimming pool, steam room, sauna, fitness center, two indoor tennis courts, one outdoor tennis court, basketball, volleyball, spa services and more.
“Many of my family’s most treasured memories have happened here at the club and on the lake. It’s a restorative place that we hold very dearly,” says Saban. “I can only hope as a part owner now to fulfill the sense of stewardship and growth that has guided Waterfall Club for so many years.”
Whisenhunt adds, “In a profession that requires a lot of moves, it’s hard to get a sense of home. Lake Burton has been our family’s one constant for over 40 years and has become that place we call home. Waterfall Club has done a great deal to enhance our time on the lake, as almost all of our days there include some type of memorable activity or meal at the club with family and friends. Waterfall Club has added so much to this community and as a part owner I hope to contribute to the continued growth of this special place.”
The expanded ownership positions at Waterfall Club were made available after the untimely passing of part-owner Terry Stiles, a benevolent presence at the club for many years. The Stiles family will retain partial ownership interest in Waterfall Club, as will Managing Partner Rob Hewlett.
