Looking for a way to continue celebrating Oktoberfest, how about trying out Octoberfest, where dirndl and lederhosen are optional. Yes, Chef! Culinary Events and A Cork in the Road have come together to create Octoberfest, a hands-on cooking class accompanied with a German Beer vs. German Wine event.
A Cork in the Road was founded by Kelly Cornett, the group is the founder of the signature events “Wine vs. Beer”. It is an event where she selects wines and her competitor, usually her husband, selects beers for multiple food pairings throughout the night. She gathers information from guests on whether beers or wines pair better with particular dishes, to provide valuable insights to restaurants and clients alike.
“My goal is always to have people leave having learned at least one new thing about their own taste preferences,” said Kelly Cornett, Founder of A Cork in the Road, LLC. “I love anytime that someone comes to these dinners saying they are a ‘beer person’ or a ‘wine person’ but end up liking pairings with the opposite beverage. I don’t want people to drink what I like or what someone tells them to like – I want them to learn a few ways to describe what they like so they end up drinking what they like more often.”
Octoberfest’s hands on cooking class will be lead by Founder and Chef Cyndi Sterne of Yes,Chef! Culinary Events. Chef Sterne will be drawing influence from her German heritage and travels from the time she spent in Germany. Her personal attention will guide guests through each part of the process to create a memorable experience and delicious dishes alike.
“I want people to relax and enjoy the process of cooking,” states Chef Sterne. “What I’ve experienced time and time again is the more fun you have in the kitchen, the better the dish .”
Dishes you will create include…
Caramelized Onion Strudel with grainy mustard appetizer
Schnitzel with horseradish aioli
Spatzel with butter and dill
Braise red cabbage
Apple cake with fresh cream
Visit Octoberfest for all those interested in trying German dishes, German wines and German beers alike. It will take place this upcoming Saturday October 19th from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at Yes, Chef! Culinary Events (4969 Roswell Road NE Sandy Springs, GA 30342). If you would like more information or to purchase tickets for the event you can visit the event website at Universe.
A Cork in the Road
Kelly Cornett serves as your Wine Concierge, Inventor of the Wine vs Beer Dinner format based in Atlanta but global at heart, I’m an exercise physiologist by day and a wine enthusiast…all the time. Mentored by a South African winemaker, I’ve managed a winery in Virginia, biked to wineries in Mendoza, explored tasting rooms in Napa and Sonoma, studied Pinot Noir in Willamette Valley, coordinated tasting events in Georgia, designed multi-course wine pairing dinners in the Shenandoah Valley, sold small-batch wines to big retailers in Washington D.C. …and now I’m sharing joy of all things wine through A Cork in the Road’s tastings, classes, and Wine vs Beer adventures.
