DOUGLAS COUNTY, GA. —
Any child who participates in Douglas County, Georgia’s, after-school program or other approved after-school activities will now be able to get a free dinner.
The 27 schools within the district started serving breakfast, lunch and dinner last week.
The free meal is available to all students participating in approved academic after-school activities.
Students participating in the after-school program will still receive an afternoon snack, in addition to supper.
“With so many students still on campus after school for after-school care, tutoring or extracurricular activities, it is important that we do all we can make sure these students don’t go home hungry,” said Danielle Freeman, Douglas County Schools executive director of school nutrition.
On Mondays and Fridays, students also have the option of a grab-and-go meal. All the meals follow meal guidelines established by the United States Department of Agriculture.
