Savage After Midnight is kicking off 2019 by touring in support of Pop Evil on January 25th at The Loft. The band is comprised of Shi Eubank (vocals), Jeremiah Lipscomb (guitar), Landon Fox (bass), James “JT” Thomas (keys, vocals) and Zack Pate (drums). They will be performing songs off their long awaited debut EP 11:59, being released early 2019.
“The band was called Empire City when we actually found the record deal,” said Shi Eubank vocalist of Savage After Midnight. “I guess there’s a DJ in Iceland or somewhere that’s fairly renowned that had that same name and I’ve been using it for quite awhile. So they sent us back to the drawing board and finally the name Savage After Midnight popped out. I mean we’re business by day and savages at night.”
10 Feet Tall is the first single and song released from their debut 11:59. The track builds from a melodic verse, through a propulsive bridge into an unforgettable chorus. Since forming in 2009, the band has been sidetracked by an obligatory name change, a studio fire, scrapped recordings from major producers, a crippling lawsuit they had nothing to do with and an 11th hour record label change. 11:59 will be releasing a both aggressive and poppy five-song EP with colored hard rock passages, a contrast of screamed melodies and it’s augmented by electronic segments that give the band a modern edge. A follow up EP is also in the works called 12:01, which plays off their name.
“We’ve got the entire record done and actually got enough material for several more records actually,” states Shi. “It’s just different parts of the story, different parts of the history, because all the songs are. They come from really personal events that have happened to us or maybe personally our mindset or our thought process on certain things.”
Savage After Midnight invest their creativity across different mediums beyond just the music creating process. The band will include animation into many of their upcoming music videos, they are also looking towards short films and comic books. Their music, comic books and short films give insights on the members of the band and their journey to present day in an ingenious way.
“We always wanted to find a way to tell the story of who we are as people and where we came from. We sat down with an animator after the name, and decided that a comic book series would be cool. It’s called The Savages and it’s actually us as little kids, it tells the story as us as kids and we’re fully tattooed,” says Shi. “It’s got a story of its own and shows us in the band illustrated and then what we turn into after midnight, which are like these big monster, creatures. So through the comic book series will be dropping little clues about the band’s history.”
