This Wednesday, I had the pleasure of having dinner with my roommate at Republic Social House. Republic is located right off of Memorial in the Grant Park area and it faces Oakland Cemetery. There’s parking located in the back which eventually leads to a back door that you can walk in, or like we did, you can just walk around to the front doors. When you initially walk in, the first thing you notice is the dim lighting and the huge bar that is practically staring you in the face and calling your name. Noticing the atmosphere of the restaurant is something I feel that you notice almost instantly when walking in somewhere. When walking into Republic, the atmosphere feels really laid back and fun. Republic is cool because you can choose to sit downstairs or make your way upstairs where they have yet another bar, and an outside patio to sit on. Since the weather was incredible, we obviously decided to sit outside and embrace the gorgeous view.
After immediately sitting down (because there was no wait) we decided to order their pretzel crusted fried pickles because I can’t come to a restaurant that serves fried pickles and not order them. If you’ve never had fried pickle spears like these, don’t be intimidated because they were DELICIOUS. I wanted ten orders of them. For my meal I ordered the buffalo chicken sammie with fries as my side and, surprise, it was also delicious. It was a little on the spicy side though, so if really spicy stuff isn’t your thing this might not be the option for you. However, my roommate ordered their chicken fingers which she says are the best ones she has ever had. I mean come on, everyone loves chicken fingers so this is a safe bet if you’re nervous about broadening your horizons. Republic recently has come out with new flat bread options which are something you should definitely check out as well.
The food at Republic is without a doubt something that I recommend everyone should come try. The service there was also amazing. We were seated as soon as we walked in the door and our server was really sweet and definitely made sure we always had everything we needed. Although I didn’t participate, the bar and almost everyone around were going crazy over Fruity Pebble rim jobs. Definitely a one of a kind, must try drink if you’re at Republic.
If you’re looking for a place to grab a few drinks, eat amazing food, and have fun in a really laid back atmosphere I absolutely suggest coming to spend your night at Republic Social House. We had a blast and definitely plan on coming back soon. Moral of the story is, come for the drinks but stay for the food.
