The United States Men’s National Team is back in Atlanta for the first time in 38 years, a 1-0 win over China at Fulton County Stadium. That is surprising to most people, but there are reasons behind the long absence of the men’s team for that long period of time. The lack of an ideal soccer venue is one of the main reasons, which is due to not having a top-flight team in Atlanta.
With Atlanta United FC coming to Atlanta in 2017 and a new stadium being built right next door to the Georgia Dome, this has given reasons for more high profiled soccer matches to come to Atlanta once again.
The Gold Cup match between USA and Jamaica tonight has sold out with over 68,000 tickets for the double-header, the latter being Mexico and Panama. The matches tonight has already been set to be largest profiled matches to be played in the ATL.
It’s an exciting time for soccer in Atlanta and the United States as a whole. There will be plenty of the Red, White and Blue along with “The Reggae Boyz” colors as well. There will also be many of the youth players in Georgia sporting their local youth clubs kits as well.
