Be aware of your surroundings.
The restroom is supposed to be a place of safety, relief and sometimes relaxation. Some people call their toilet their throne for instance. So imagine your surprise when you’re out at a restaurant, go to use the restroom and discover a hidden camera directly above you in a vent.
That is the recent experience of Olivia, who posted her startling discovery at the Red Pepper Taqueria on Piedmont Road. Olivia shared an Instagram post showing what appeared to be a camera sitting in a vent above her toilet. We reached out to Olivia for her account of the situation.
When asked how she found the camera, she explained to us that it was sitting there exactly how she posted it in on social media. Once discovered, they took it down. When Olivia brought it to the attention of the management, she described the manager as “just really dismissive.”
Olivia says that she “just posted so other girls will pay attention and be safe.”
We reached out to Red Pepper but were unable to get ahold of management.
However, a statement has been released on this incident, by Red Pepper, since our earlier attempts to reach out. The restaurant says that the “camera in question is NOT the property of the Red Pepper Taquería” and that police were called. APD found that the camera had no SIM card inside of it. The restaurant is calling it a “non-event.”
