A bet is a bet, ladies and gentlemen, and Zoo Atlanta has kept their word on their Super Bowl LI bet.
The painful memory of the Atlanta Falcons blowing an early lead over the Patriots during the Super Bowl has been etched into the minds of Falcons fans and Patriots haters all across the globe. Thanks to a bet that Zoo Atlanta made with Roger Williams Park Zoo and Carousel Village in Rhode Island, Zoo Atlanta has just named a new baby cockroach none other than Tom Brady.
Leading up to the Super Bowl there was no shortage of smack talking between Falcons and Patriots fans and with this being a showdown of historic proportions, there were some pretty serious bets made. One of those bets meant that Zoo Atlanta or Roger Williams Park Zoo and Carousel Village would have to name a baby animal after the other team’s quarterback.
“Before the game, our two zoos decided the losing side would name one of their baby animals after the winning team’s star quarterback, and figuring the losing side would be pretty bitter about it, we came to the agreement that baby animal…would be a Madagascar hissing cockroach,” Zoo Atlanta explained in a Facebook post.
The rest of the newborn cockroaches were named after members of The Brady Bunch but the “littlest baby of them all” has been deemed Tom Brady.
Is it unfortunate that our local zoo now has an anime named Tom Brady in honor of their stunning Super Bowl comeback? Absolutely.
But it’s still kind of fun to think about calling a tiny cockroach Tom Brady. Hey, you have to find the silver lining somewhere, right?
